Custom Art Experience
Custom art commissions invite you into the creative process in a way that feels personal, considered, and deeply connected to your space.
This experience is ideal for those who are drawn to my work and want a painting tailored to their environment, whether through color, scale, or the overall mood of the composition.
If you’ve connected with a piece that has already sold, we can create a new interpretation inspired by its palette or structure. And for those who want something even more intimate, we can shape your painting around the feeling of a place that matters to you. By translating the colors and atmosphere of a favorite location into abstract form, your art commission becomes a personal souvenir of a meaningful moment in your life.
Every commission begins with a conversation about what inspires you. Together, we’ll shape a work of art that feels aligned with your home and the emotional energy you want to invite into it.
FAQs
How do I commission a painting from you?
Complete the form below to started. If you have any questions, you can reach me at melanie@melaniebiehle.com.
How much does a commissioned painting cost?
Pricing depends on factors like the size of the painting, the number of pieces, and your shipping location. You can get an idea of my pricing by browsing my current available work. Please note that commissioned paintings include a custom art fee due to the unique, collaborative nature of the project. My minimum rate for commissioned work starts at $1,000 (not including tax, framing, or shipping) for an 18x24 or 20×20 inch painting. You may commission smaller sized artwork, but the minimum fee will not decrease based on size. Once you submit your details below, I’ll provide a personalized quote for your project.
Do I have to pay for the entire painting upfront?
No — 50% of the total fee is due upfront before any work begins. This deposit is non-refundable, even if you decide to cancel the commission. The remainder is due before the final painting is shipped or delivered to you. When your painting is finished, I’ll send you a photo of the final piece. Once you approve it, you’ll send your final payment, and I’ll prepare it for shipping.
How long will it take to get my commissioned painting?
Timing depends on my current schedule and the size and complexity of your commission. Typically, you’ll receive your commissioned painting within eight weeks of the start date.
What happens if I don’t like it? Can I return the painting?
Due to the custom, collaborative nature of commissions, paintings cannot be returned. However, I take thoughtful steps to ensure we’re aligned throughout the process.
After you schedule your commission and pay your deposit, we’ll have a consultation by phone or email to discuss your vision in detail. During the creation process, I’ll share one or two progress photos. You’re welcome to give feedback, and up to two revisions are included. Any further changes beyond this will require an additional fee.
Note: It’s very rare for me to receive more than one revision request — most clients are thrilled with their paintings from the start!

“My husband and I love Melanie’s work. We have been privileged to collect multiple pieces including a triptych that we commissioned. Melanie thoughtfully and creatively worked with us to create a unique piece that was perfect for our space. We are excited to welcome to our home a newly purchased work and can’t wait for it to be installed!”
