Revisiting a Pivotal Collaboration: The 2020 Abstract Landscape Collection
The 2020 Abstract Landscape Collection holds a special place in my heart. Created in collaboration with Casa di LaValle (formerly Coco Kelley), it marked a pivotal moment in my artistic journey—one that helped me embrace new techniques, softer palettes, and even a color I hadn’t worked with before: green. While the original paintings have all sold, fine art prints from this well-loved collection are still available, bringing a sense of calm and beauty to homes today.
This project was a turning point, pushing my work forward in ways I couldn’t have anticipated at the time. Working on this collection helped me explore a new softness and serenity in my paintings. What started as an experiment with earthy tones and organic forms has since become a defining element of my style. Back then, green felt like a bold departure; now, it’s one of my most-used colors.
Bringing a sense of calm into our homes is always important, but 2020 elevated that need to a whole new level. Spending so much time at home with my family prompted me to take a fresh look at my surroundings. I began assessing what made our space feel comfortable, cozy, and aligned with the energy I wanted to cultivate in each room. With travel off the table, my inspiration shifted to the nearby parks, lakes, forests, and coastlines of the Pacific Northwest—a region I’ve never felt luckier to call home.
When Cassandra and I first discussed collaborating on this collection, I knew I wanted to create a series inspired by nature and serenity—exactly what I needed during that time and the energy I hoped to share through my work. Cassandra’s earthy color palette perfectly complemented the organic, open, and calming feeling I wanted to express.
Though I couldn’t explore new cities or countries that year, the creative process of shaping these abstract landscapes became its own adventure. Experimenting with new-to-me color palettes and acrylic mediums allowed me to create softer, quieter works than I had in the past.
I’ve known Cassandra for over a decade, and I’ve always admired her creative vision and impeccable sense of style. Her iconic tablescapes alone are an endless source of inspiration! Collaborating with her on this project was such an honor and a joyful push in my art practice.
