Wow, it’s been a long time since I did an Art I Heart post. Seriously, July?! This is well overdue.
When I look at the work of photographers I admire, I definitely notice a trend. I like photographs of women. Most of the photographers I like are women. If these women photographers have primarily female subjects, we can assume that they’re women who like and respect other women. That’s a good thing.
I can’t remember where I first saw San Francisco-based photographer Hana Haley’s work. Are you guys familiar with her?
I love her fashion shoots, and much of her personal work has that cool, fashiony vibe too.
You can learn more about Hana and see more of her work on her personal blog, Pictures and Letters.
Do you think gender of the photographer has an impact on their work? Here’s what The British Journal of Photography has to say about women and social portraiture.
“Photography is changing and women get it,” she says [
]. They get childhood; a female will understand the aspects of being a teenager and how they feel – not only in the picture, but also how they feel being photographed. I think that women understand what I call the final destination, that’s the home.
What do you think?
