New Art: Exuberance

Exuberance abstract painting by Melanie Biehle. Pink and green abstract painting.

Exuberance isn’t exactly “new art” anymore. I started this painting in October 2022 and finished it at the end of November, but I haven’t been as great at sharing my work here as I have on Instagram and I’m working on that habit. If you’d like to see the rest of my art that I haven’t written about here (yet!), feel free to check out my shop! But back to Exuberance and the process of completing it.

Process of painting Exuberance

With some of my paintings there is a mourning period of first stages lost. This is very common for artists — fall in love with early marks, try to preserve them for a bit, and later have to sacrifice them for the overall good of the composition. It can be painful, especially during the journey of getting to the place that we call “complete.”

I started Exuberance before I went to Maui and completed it after I got back. I haven’t written about Maui (yet!), but while I was there I had one of those experiences that opens you up and changes you. Because of the timing, part of that magic of transformation lives on in this painting.

I don’t have images of the feeling I experienced and wonderful forms of life I saw when I went snorkeling, but I hold that energy close and see it live on here.
