Inspired by Travel: Berlin, Germany

Berlin Wall Graffiti

I genuinely want to use this space to document inspiration for my art and parts of my life that have been especially interesting or meaningful, but I took this trip to Berlin in 2015 and it’s 2023 now. The tiny boy walking toward the Berlin Wall is going to be a teenager this summer!

I wish I could remember more details about how I felt when I was experiencing this city, but I do remember loving it and finding it artful and inspiring. Since I don’t have a lot of travel information to give you, this post is pretty much going to be a photo dump. Here are a few links to places I remember visiting.

We stayed at the Casa Camper in Mitte and I remember really liking the hotel and the neighborhood. We also visited and enjoyed Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg.

My favorite thing that I did was something that I was not sure I would like — the Fat Tire Bike Tour. I was nervous about doing it because I hadn’t ridden a bike since I lived in Santa Monica in 2005, but I loved it. It felt so free to be riding around a new city. It made me want to live somewhere flat and have a bike!

As you’ll notice, most of the photos I took were of street art and murals.

I loved watching Nathaniel take it all in.

Note to self: It’s really helpful to document trips relatively soon after taking them. I may have written a lot of things down in a travel journal. I know I used one when I went to Italy. If so, maybe I’ll find it and come back with any thoughts or insights I had during this trip. That’s one of the things I love about traveling now — how the experience can open you up, inspire, or change you.
