Did I ever tell you guys about the time I partially cleaned out my inbox and found issues of Trendland from two plus years ago? Or the time I found unread magazines that were at least three years old hiding underneath a shelf that was practically blocked by my sofa? This has a name: information hoarding. Do you do it?
I’m really trying to be better about it, and I’ve been using a great app called Mailbox that helps me control my hoarding tendencies, at least the ones that show up in email. Interestingly enough, my hoarding seems to be confined to online information, magazine subscriptions, and books about art, design, branding, photography, and creativity. According to my husband, I have the exact opposite problem with everything else.
Drew: “Why do you want to get rid of that toy? Nathaniel just played with it this morning?”
Me: “He played with it because he found it at the bottom of a basket of toys that he dumped out. He’d never miss it. It’s made for three-month-old infants.”
Drew: “What’s next? Are you going donate me too?”
Me: “Umm, NO.”
Geez.
Anyway…where was I…information hoarding. Yes. Thanks to that, I have something really cool to share with you today.
Have you ever wondered what building a brand looks like? Oneeighty has demystified their process in a visual way.
The moral of the story? The next time my husband brings me a sealed envelope from The Netherlands and hands it over with a raised eyebrow, my correct response would be, “Thank you for delivering my very important brand building supplies. My clients and I appreciate it very much.”
P.S. for Drew: This one is on its way soon, Sweetie.
P.S. for you: Have you signed up for my creative writing workshop yet? It’s a great brand building tool because you’ll learn how to tap into that place of creativity and uncover your unique voice that makes your brand stand out from the rest. Registration closes on Saturday, so join us soon!
See you guys tomorrow. I’ve got a great Creative Mix interview with a mixed media artist / graphic designer / curator / author / creative event maven. xo
