It seemed like such a happy coincidence when I came across a nightstand styling contest hosted by Emily Henderson and Serena & Lily. Would you believe that the day before I read about the contest, I had bought two new nightstands for our guest room?
I certainly don’t have any concrete rules about nightstand styling but my design aesthetic in general leads me toward modern simplicity, the color white, and bringing in organic materials when possible. Inward Facing Girl calls this “cozy modern,” or at least this is my version of cozy modern. The nightstands I bought look quite natural themselves, like wooden cubes. I knew that I would want to balance the wooden look with a modern lamp and a pop of color. Since I wanted to keep the rest of the styling quite simple, I only added a few more key pieces to the design, one of which was a vintage white hotel soap tray for jewelry.
I cannot sleep without having a glass of water at my side, and I suppose I assume the same of my guests, so I used a simple Weck juice jar as a carafe. To add some contrasting colors and some whimsy, I added a small Jonathan Adler peacock on top of a bright green book. And finally, I added a small bud vase with some fern leaves for a touch of the natural. I put the figurine and bud vase on top of the book so the nightstand would be filled with objects of varying heights.
I already had most of these objects, but here are a few things you can use if you’d like to create a similar look!
nightstand | a similar but much more fabulous lamp | a cool little white dish | Cuba book | Jonathan Adler Christmas ornament | bud vase | Weck juice jar
Happy nightstand styling! If you like what I’ve done here, please head on over to the contest and vote for my picture. Click the “vote” button on the top right to get to the voting page. Thanks y’all!
