You’re My Obsession: Bri Emery + Designlovefest

Designlovefest is one of the first design blogs that I ever read, back in early 2011, when I first caught a case of Blogging Obsession.

I think that Bri Emery is one of the most talented design bloggers out there. She has a great eye and an amazing sense of style. I love her graphic design work, and I’m dying to take her video Blogshop class. I’d love to take her “normal” Blogshop class too! Maybe a hybrid in Seattle next year, Bri? Please?

Her style posts are amazing. Her recent coat post for Lucky Magazine is what made me dedicate my entire column to Designlovefest today.

The accompanying video is one of the most creative and stylish I’ve ever seen.

Bri and her boyfriend (Aaron Soheili of Modshift) have put together some incredibly creative videos. Their tribute to Stanley Kubrick is perfect for Halloween week!

I know that some of you are bloggers, and you’re probably reading this and going, “I could never do all that stuff.” Maybe you can’t. And honestly, you shouldn’t.

But maybe you can

Do your own version of all this stuff.

When you’re reading blogs you admire and you find yourself falling into that jealous pit, turn it around and let it motivate you.

Sign up for a Photoshop class. Buy a book about photo styling. Go outside or into your bedroom and shoot an iPhone video. Rearrange your furniture and photograph it for your blog.

Don’t just wish that you could be a better designer or writer or photographer. Take a step to MAKE you a better designer, writer, or photographer. Then create YOUR awesome blog.

When you’re not feeling good about where you are, remember this one simple truth.

Every blogger starts with their first blog post.

In case you’re curious, here’s mine.

Here’s Bri’s.
