What’s Next?: Time for Some Changes

Happy Friday, friends!

Don’t let my subject line freak you out. I’m not changing Inward Facing Girl to a blog that’s only about circuses. We already have one of those. I’m talking about the case of the disappearing writing, especially in my You’re My Obsession posts.

This week Drew ever so gently pointed out something about my recent YMO post. I wrote about it in the comments section of my friend Sandra’s post about how blogs change through time, and I’m going to share it with you today. Here’s the main takeaway: Drew showed me the weakness of the post. And the funny thing is that it’s something I order other people to do all of the time. I’m building my whole business around it, but I don’t always do it myself.

You have to put YOU into your blog posts or marketing messaging.

Drew said that while I chose some amazing things to feature on my weekly roundup, that I didn’t really get too personal or write too much about why they made the list, which is what he really enjoys most about my blog. He even reminded me of a personal story that I could have written about one of the obsessions that would have been hilarious. Sigh.

Honestly, I think I’ve been kind of lazy with that column lately, partially because it takes a long time to choose five things that I want to feature, select the images I want to use, and create any additional images that I want to incorporate into the posts. The other half of my blog laziness comes from being focused on working on my business website, and the branding and messaging for it.

So…I’m changing it up. I’m revamping my Monday You’re My Obsession column.  I’m not sure exactly what that means yet, but I want to put more “me” into my weekly list. Most likely I’ll be dropping down from five obsessions to no more than three. Some weeks I’ll even have just one, but I promise you’re going to get something out of that one item other than a couple of lines of text and three images.

I want to share my opinions about the things I love with you, or the things that make me laugh about them, or why I’m in awe of them. I want to say more than this is cool, go look at it. I want to do what I know I should be doing more often – putting more “me” into my posts.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments. I hope you enjoy the new posts!

Have a great weekend! xo
