Notes From Day Care: Fun with Friends + A Mother Goose Rant

Monday, October 1, 2012

Nathaniel had a good day! This morning he really liked reading the book All About Seeds and pointing out the “little rats” (moles and squirrels). Note from Mommy: Sometimes we call Nathaniel and Bella “little rats.” Out of love and fun, of course. :)

He also spent a long time looking at his photo album of all his family this morning. He was in good spirits most of the day, but talked about Mommy and Daddy a lot. Note from Mommy: Sigh. :/

Nathaniel had a good day today! He really liked playing with playdough this morning with his friends A, T, and K. They all cut their playdough with scissors. :) Nathaniel also had a blast when we went outside to the bunnyside. He liked going down the slides over and over.

Nathaniel had a good day! This morning Nathaniel, I, and T pretended to be cowboys with yarn lassos! They had so much fun! Later, a bunch of friends got out books and I read aloud a few books that each child picked out. Nathaniel sat very contently through each story. His favorite was the Mother Goose book!

Mother Goose Rant from Mommy

I haven’t seen the version of the Mother Goose book that they have at day care, but OMG…have you guys read Mother Goose lately? We have a copy at home that Nathaniel received as a gift and he wanted to read it the other night. I almost had a heart attack over some of the stuff that’s written in that book! Dark and awful.

Even the rhymes I remember from childhood – Jack and Jill, Humpty Dumpty, etc. are bleak. Why are these kids and large eggs always getting hurt, crying, and feeling terrible? Why are they always getting their fingers stuck in pies or attacked by spiders while they’re just sitting on their tuffets minding their own business? Even the babies aren’t safe, they’re falling from the treetops while they’re being rocked because the limbs are breaking.

Seriously…this is Mother Goose

HUSH-A-BYE

Hush-a-bye, baby,

Daddy is near;

Mamma is a lady,

And that’s very clear.

I HAD A LITTLE HUSBAND

I had a little husband no bigger than my thumb,

I put him in a pint pot, and there I bid him drum,

I bought a little handkerchief to wipe his little nose,

And a pair of little garters to tie his little hose.

I think that there are some husband fearing and hating ladies in Mother Goose land. Drew thinks that the first one is soothing the baby…it’s okay, Daddy is near, etc. I think that Mommy is warning the baby that the crazy man is home now and that she can’t protect him because she’s “just” a lady. Whatever. Maybe Drew just needs to spend some time locked up in a giant pumpkin crying for his supper while a huge ladybug wears his shoes, or something like that.

Nathaniel had a good day! He really wanted to go to the motor room all morning and was so excited when he got to go. He really missed Mom and Dad.

Nathaniel had a good day today! He really enjoyed playing with playdough this morning. We used letters to press into the playdough and talked about each of them. Again Nathaniel was very excited to go to the motor room this afternoon!

Nathaniel loved climbing on foam blocks and over cylinders in the motor room this morning. He was very careful of friends and excited to cheer on others. :) He and C sat in front of the bubble mirror giggling at all of their reflections – so cute!

Nathaniel had a good day! He has really been on a motor room kick, but did a great job playing in the classroom when we told him we would go later. He sat for a while in the pillow pit with his friends A, I, and C. They were chatting and having fun!

Nathaniel had a good day today! This morning he really liked making art with the dotters with his friends K and F. Later, we got out the parachute, which he loves! He loves hiding in the folds and having someone find him.
