In one of my issues of Elle Decor, before I started writing down issue, date, and other information that I need for this column, I ripped out a page because I was drawn to this image from the Japan Society’s art exhibit Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture, 1920-1945.
According to the Japan Society’s description, this is the first U.S. exhibit to showcase “a little-known brand of pre-WWII modernism borne of competitive ingenuity and vivacious cosmopolitanism.”
I’d love to see the exhibit. It’s traveling through 2014, maybe longer, but so far there are no Seattle dates. Items on display include metalwork, ceramics, lacquer, glass, furniture, jewelry, sculpture and all kinds of other things from the period like sheet music, posters, postcards, prints and photography.
