Hi guys! I just spent an amazing few days with some of my oldest and dearest friends. I can’t wait to share some of the photographs I took at the places we visited in my own city, but we still have parts of Chicago left to explore.
As is often the case when I travel, my favorite part of my recent trip to Chicago was the art I experienced. I fell in love with the sculpture and interactive art in Millennium Park, and when I visited the Roy Lichtenstein Retrospective at The Art Institute I realized that I was an even bigger fan of his work than I thought.
Before we entered the musuem we got to see a colorful installation on the Bluhm Family Terrace by German artist Katharina Fritsch.
Okay, time to go inside and escape the heat. I grew up in Louisiana, but I’ve been on the West Coast for 12 years now and I just can’t handle it anymore. Like I get headaches just from being in the sun, even if I’m just sitting there. It’s crazy.
I was excited to see the Lichtenstein exhibit. I’ve always liked his work, even though I was much more obsessed with Warhol and his entourage. We took a look at some of the other artwork before heading to Lichtenstein, but didn’t spend too much time there since we were traveling with a two-year-old. A two-year-old who loves art, exploring new places and things, and an old pro at museums and galleries, but still a two-year-old.
I’ve never been a huge Georgia O’Keefe fan, but this painting really grabbed my attention. I love the color palette.
Now it’s Lichtenstein time. The museum allowed some of the work to be photographed. I’ll show you a few of my favorites, then you can learn more here.
Our last stop in the museum, before the awesome Modern Wing Shop (I LOVE art museum gift shops), was Mark Chagall’s America Windows.
I love visiting art museums. They change my mood and always inspire me. Are you a musuem fan? How often do you visit? Do you take your children?
See you tomorrow! xo
