Good morning, friends. Or should I say happy Monday? No. I definitely should not. My sweet little guy is sick and was up much of last night. :(
Maybe just five obsessions then…
Living Abroad for at Least One Year
How cool would that be? I’m not sure when and I’m not sure how, but someday we will do this.
It all started when I saw some photographs of Huettenpalast (a super interesting Berlin hotel) on the Anthology website.
Then, when I was walking around the Fremont Sunday Street Market, I started daydreaming about Paris. I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful city once, for just over a week, in 2005. It was so amazing, and I’d love to go back with my husband and son.
Then I started thinking about some of my favorite authors and bloggers who have lived abroad for about a year (or more, in some cases) and documented their experiences.
So, world, universe, spiritual beings…I’m putting it out there. I would L…O…V…E for us to be able to move to London, Paris, or Berlin for a year and write, photograph, collage, and illustrate the entire experience.
Note to book, blog, and/or magazine publishers:
What’s in it for you? You mean besides interesting photographs, art love, good taste, travel tips, heartfelt writing, and non-prairie witty commentary?
1) A blog/book by a wandering American woman living in another country for a year with her adventurous husband and loves-to-roam one-year old son, all wrapped up with weekend jaunts to other countries in a beautifully photographed package – people LOVE this stuff.
2) Said woman and family got this smashing deal through her blog – built-in marketing campaign.
3) I’m a good writer and photographer and I can meet deadlines. Plus, I’m funny and fun to work with. Just ask anyone.
You can email me here.
Please.
In preparation for my upcoming blog and/or book deal, I thought it was time to invest in a 50mm lens.
A while back I emailed two of my favorite bloggers who take beautiful photographs – Lara Rossignol of Piewacket and Victoria Smith of sfgirlbybay – and asked them what lens they recommended for shooting the best blog photos. Both of them mentioned using a 50mm lens, so I began searching for one that was within my budget.
I finally ordered the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II and it should arrive this week! I can’t wait to take a ton of sharp close-ups with blurred backgrounds (aka shallow depth of field) like this one, but different.

Last week on the best website ever invented, I saw this fashion pin. Let’s just pretend that the pearl earrings and navy bag aren’t there, m’kay?
Upon further research, I found out that most of these items came from J. Crew about two years ago. OMG, I am sooooooooo two years ago right now!
So, while I won’t be purchasing this look, I’m still inspired by the super dark jeans, nearly black purplish navyish cardigan, and the tangeriney cinnamony spicy orange top. Like my color naming system? I could totally work for Pantone. I could do the brown boots too, but that bag and those pearls really have to go.
Did you guys see the photos I took of the FANTASTIC treats I got from Whimsy & Spice?
Drew, Nathaniel, and I took a jaunt to the Scandinavian haven this past Saturday. In addition to this cool, non-garish LEKPLATS play mat/rug for Nathaniel (as seen on Design*Sponge, ohdeedoh, and through my husband’s interwebs searching eyes), I picked up a few various white bowls and plates for future food photography.
Yesterday morning I had breakfast on one of the white plates. Sigh. It was so…beautiful. And I was only eating veggie sausage and frozen waffles. Now I want to throw out all of the black dishes and buy all new white ones. Like, yesterday. Looks like someone needs to go back to IKEA.
