Blogspiration: BowerBird

This week’s Blogspiration is BowerBird. Laura and Kate describe the site as “…one part vintage, one part new, one part blog, and one part shop.” Actually, I prefer their first description which is “…a collection of collective artists who like to collect collections….” Heehee. I like Laura and Kate. I know we’d be best friends.

You can find out about all kinds of awesome things on their blog, like this cool bug art by Christopher Marley.

I didn’t even know that I liked bug art! Although, there was that church trip that my parents sent me on when I was in junior high (or middle school, as the kids are calling it now) and I came home with a bright orange lucite bulb ring with a dead ant inside of it. This will give you an idea of what I’m talking about, but mine was styled differently. I have no idea where we went on the trip, but I remember my ant corpse ring fondly.

And check this out. The BowerBird gals have made me want to visit Oxford, Mississippi. I think I may have gone there once when I was younger, but I don’t remember it at all and I have no idea why I was there or what I did…which was sometimes the case when I was 19. Oh, wasted youth!

But how cool must Oxford be? They have the BowerBird gals, Amelia, Fat Possum Records, and one of my favorite artists, Kate Bingaman-Burt, lived there before she moved to Portland. And that’s only the stuff that I know about!

So, it’s settled. I’m adding Oxford to my list of southern places that I want to visit, along with Marfa, Fayetteville, Savannah, the Outer Banks, Charleston, and the Christmas Festival in Natchitoches. And I’m sure there’s more.

Thanks for sharing the cool, Laura and Kate! BowerBird rocks!
