This is not a Paris Vacation Guide. It’s a peek into what I notice and how I see.
It’s been three months since we visited Paris. I keep hoping that I’ll come up with some clever organized way to share everything about my trip, but I’m tired of thinking about it and I just want to jump in and share some photos!
I’m focusing on street scenes, rooftops, and architecture in this round. That’s what I notice the most when I’m traveling — small moments, color palettes, shapes. These are the kinds of things that are going to show up in new artwork that I create, even when it’s not intentional. I truly take these things in when I visit a city and they are expressed later.

I HAVE A THING FOR PARISIAN ROOFTOPS.
Seriously, I’m 100% obsessed with the rooftops of Paris. I love the shapes, the color palettes, and the ubiquitous little red chimneypots.
PARIS: THE DETAILS
Sometimes it’s a door. Or a painting at the top of a narrow staircase. Or a moment at a cafe. A splash of blue. Tiles. Fonts.
PARIS: THE END
We spent a week in Paris, then headed south. We stayed in Aix-En-Provence for a couple of nights and then made our way to the French Riviera. Nice was our home base there, but we took day trips to Menton and Éze. We flew back to Paris for one more day and night before returning to Seattle. It was our 15th wedding anniversary and we spent it strolling through the city, stopping off at one of my favorite parks — Place des Vosges — and visiting Coulée Verte René-Dumont. I was pulled into Ariel Jakob Gallery for a Magi Puig exhibition, which I loved! (P.S. There’s going to be other separate posts specifically for art that I saw and loved on this trip.)
Here’s a little Reel from our last two days in Paris.
There’s so much more to share from this trip and I’m sure I forgot a ton from Paris, but I will allow all of this inspiration to unfold in the way that it presents itself to me. As I said before, I saw a lot of art on this trip and there will be separate posts for museums and exhibitions. There’s also Aix-En-Provence, Nice, Menton, and Éze.
I’ve already begun to see the inspiration I gathered from this journey show up in my art. You’ll see colors from Paris and the South of France in the Monochromatic Collection with Casa di LaValle and the new work that I’ll be sharing at Capers in West Seattle in August and September.
