I adore New Year’s Day. I usually don’t make it to midnight on New Year’s Eve and never really cared too much for it as a holiday, but taking out a journal and pen and writing down the things I hope to achieve in a brand new year thrills me as much as getting a box of new office supplies (preferably hot pink office supplies, if you’re planning on sending a gift).
I think it’s important to start out with giving yourself a pat on the back for all of the awesomeness of the previous year and appreciate what it gave you before you dive into what’s next. Once that is done, take a moment, close your eyes, and picture your ideal 2013. What does it look like? What are you doing? How do you feel? Who is there with you? Sit in the stillness for a while, then write it down.
My Intentions for 2013
Go
* Continue to build my business by finding and working with amazing clients that are ready for change and appreciate the value of my services.
* Seek out new freelance writing opportunities.
* Exercise at least two or three days a week.
* Schedule creative time solely for the purpose of working on an essay, collage, art project, photography project, or digital illustration.
* Schedule time at the end of each week to plan the next week.
* Schedule time each week to upload photos and artwork to Society6 and Veer.
* Schedule planning meetings with myself to develop creative new blog posts and research places to submit my writing, photography, and artwork.
* Develop an ecourse and/or ebook.
* Explore the blog world more – check out five to ten new blogs each week.
Stop
* Find ways to focus on one project for extended periods of time without checking email and social media. It can wait.
* Take more control over social media use – take extended breaks from it and be fully present in the moment that I’m living in.
* Pare down as much as possible – actual stuff and interwebs stuff. Streamline.
* Give myself a time limit on certain types of tasks. Sometimes good enough is good enough.
