Moodboard Monday: Unexpected Journey, 11/22/2021

Moodboard Monday: November 22, 2021. A collection of Pacific Northwest images to accompany the abstract painting Unexpected Journey.

To be fair, I actually created this moodboard last Monday and shared it on Instagram. But I’m feeling a pull to show up in this space again, my own online home, versus those that others build. So I’m going to share what I already shared in hope of returning to this practice and this space on a more regular basis. If you’ve already read this story, my apologies. But thank you for being here just the same. xoxo

When I started collecting images to create this post, it was just going to be a #moodboardmonday. Thanks to inspiration from my friend Kim Taylor (take a look at her beautiful pottery!), it’s turned into so much more.

Kim shared a post today and asked us what we’re grateful for. It turns out that what I’m most grateful for is that my current life is nothing like I imagined it to be.

I’m grateful for the unrecognizable life I created after I turned 40.

My paintings spring from what I experience visually, and the things I think about and obsessively explore. The places I visit, the books I read, and the TV shows I bingewatch.

But my paintings are more than that.

They are the product of an unexpected life. They are created from years of living in the unknown. They are birthed from sorrow and love and anxiety and beauty and tears and laughter.

They are bits of the highest joys and snippets of the darkest lows, woven together throughout time and expressed through color and form.

Every painting I create is part of who I am.
