50 Bold Abstract Paintings Celebrating 50 Years on Earth

As I mentioned previously, I celebrated my 50th journey around the sun last month. I created 50 5×5 inch paintings released over 50 days, one per day until my 50th birthday. About half of the paintings sold during the online launch. The remaining half will be part of my latest painting exhibition at CURA, Metamorphosis: Half-Century. The lovely Kiko at CURA put together this post about the show, which opens on Saturday, January 18th at CURA in Seattle.

I used to think that being bold was about building up layers of strength. Putting yourself out there again and again until you develop a protective shield to whatever comes back. Over time I've learned that being bold is more about the layers you dig beneath rather than the ones you create.

Now that I've begun unraveling many of the stories I've told myself over time, I realize that some of my "bold" choices were actually attempts to protect my heart as I moved through life. And even though I've changed a lot over time, some of those feelings and experiences still needed to be acknowledged, understood, and released.
