Where I’m Headed is a series of abstract oil paintings that I completed this summer. After working on the detailed Abstract Cityscapes series, I needed to find more space within my work. I wanted to explore new-to-me desert color combinations and earthy hues to create warm, painterly pieces that evoke gentle dreams of travel.
I used three different substrates in the six-painting series – mixed media art board, stretched canvas, and wood panel. I used my fingers, palette knives, and silicone blender “brushes” to paint. I remember feeling very connected to the work after using my fingers as a blending tool, similar to the way I felt when working on some pastel drawings a couple of years ago. My body became physically part of the art I was creating.
Travel images flowed into my brain like crazy when I was creating these abstract landscapes – but interestingly, from places I’ve never visited. I kept seeing rugged mountain landscapes in Sedona, warm yellow, orange, and earthy browns of Santa Fe, and vast pink desert skies. I want to see them all in person.
The Where I’m Headed abstract landscape oil painting collection is available for purchase at Saatchi Art. If you’re looking for a painting in a similar style but in a larger size or different color palette, please email me to commission your own unique piece of art.
