The theme for the June Pattern Observer Textile Design Lab Challenge is Graphic Statement. I knew that I wanted to experiment with all three trend stories shared the Lab, and had already started working on some related sketches that I wanted to incorporate into print designs. Some of these are sketchbook drawings and others are pieces of paintings featured in my Abstract Cityscapes art collection. When I created the mood board, I also used photographs from a recent hike at the Boulder Garden Loop Trail in North Bend, WA and shots I took while walking around the Kubota Garden in Seattle. I took tons of photos of patterns and textures in nature and choses a few for the board to refer to for shape, texture, and color inspiration for the collection.
Up next…the collection!
