What I Want To Know About Artists

Fine Art Prints by Melanie Biehle on Minted

New fine art prints available on Minted. Still plenty of time for Christmas delivery!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here and I’ve been a busy elf over the past few days. I’ve had my paints and pastels out more often this week than I have since the beginning of November. Although we didn’t travel during Thanksgiving, we were still busy at home with our little kindergartener out of school for a week. We had our first parent/teacher conference (Good news…he gets to stay!) and celebrated my 46th birthday. Huh?! No way. I’m still totally 19. Speaking of my age, when is Pretty Little Liars coming back? I miss Rosewood.

Like I mentioned in my online tour of the Whitney Museum earlier this week, I’m planning to share a lot more here. A few years ago I wrote in this space almost every day, and while I’m pretty sure I won’t get to that level again I plan on showing up consistently at least twice a week.

I’ve been thinking about the kinds of stories I like to see when I visit artist’s blogs. I love seeing their work of course, but I also like getting a behind-the-scenes peek into their creative process, and maybe even learn something. I also like to see the inspiration behind their work – what they’re drawn to, what energizes them, what artists are inspiring to them.

The reasons that we make art are so varied, but we all want to express something that lives within ourselves. There’s something personal that drives the work that comes out of us, whether its an image that reminds us of the 70s wallpaper we grew up with or a pair of red plastic boots that hang on a Christmas tree.

Speaking of sharing, would you like to see how I put the finishing touches on Black and Gray Stone Abstract? Take a look at this short video on Instagram for a quick glimpse!

See you again soon! xoxo
