But What Is Happening NOW? | Love, Presence, + Creativity

The theme of the third issue of Bunch Magazine is one of my favorites: time. It includes an article by Billy Tangredi where he says, “You will reminisce about this time just as you do your twenties, your teenage years and your childhood, and yet you are constantly trying to ‘get somewhere’ that is not now, that is in the future, that is another ‘time’.”

This fits in nicely with where I am in my own life right now. For the past month I’ve returned to my Inward Facing Girl roots. Note to new readers: That’s what this website used to be called. I’ve been exploring the things that are most important to me – love, presence, and creativity – and figuring out how everything fits together for me at this phase of my life. Here are some of my takeaways so far.

  • Holding on to the stuff doesn’t equal holding on to memories. You can trash the concert t-shirt from the 90s and still have the experience. Thank you, Marie Kondo. I’m decluttering the crap out of everything. I’ve donated 10 bags of books so far! There will be a full post dedicated to The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing soon. And it’s definitely been…wait for it…life-changing.
  • I’m happiest when I’m laser-focused on whatever it is that I’m doing right at that moment. All that stuff about multitasking being the evil demon is true…for me at least. Focusing is calming. Focusing is good. Focusing is productive. Keep bringing on the focus.
  • Meditation is necessary. I’ve tried to sit still and pay attention to my breath several times over the past 10-15 years, but have never been able to pull it off consistently until recently. After completing all 21 days of Oprah and Deepak Chopra’s Energy of Attraction series I knew I could keep going! I’ve been making meditation an almost daily practice for the last month. It’s made a huge difference in my ability to focus, be present, and be calm.
  • Mindful motherhood is my top priority. Kids are kids for what seems like a nanosecond. Katrina Kenison’s book is my new motherhood mantra.
  • Follow your own lead. Later this week I’m going to have a meeting with myself to think about how I want to spend my creative energy in 2015. I do A LOT of different things and I want to choose projects that reflect what I’m most interested in doing now.

Alright! That’s it for today. I hope you found some helpful resources or inspiration from this post. xoxo
