Baby oil, boomboxes, and Betamax. For me, summer in the 80s meant being slathered in Coppertone or Bain de Soleil suntan oil (aka, not sunblock) or, I cringe to say this, Johnson’s Baby Oil. I spent most days beside or in a swimming pool, accompanied by a large boom box blasting out the hits of Ray Parker Jr., The Go-Gos, Billy Idol, and Wham!. When we’d had our fill of the sun we’d go inside and pop Grease or The Main Event into the Betamax or watch MTV. That was summer. When I saw Poolside FM’s instagram, I was taken back to that time.
To see some of the 80s moments come to life and listen to a poolside soundtrack, check out the Poolside Radio website. It’s the perfect way to say so long to summer.
