Commune Design is one of my favorite design firms to follow. They’ve partnered up with Ace Hotel to design several of their locations, including one of my favorites, The Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. Recently, thanks to Commune’s Tumblr blog, I learned about Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri.
Spoerri’s “snare-pictures” assemblages are the three-dimensional real life equivalent of all those overhead food shots on Instagram, but without most of the food and fancy food styling. He would take the remains of meals, including plates, silverware, and glasses, affix them to the table or board, and then hang it up.
In his book Topographie Anécdotée du Hasard (An Anecdoted Topography of Chance), he mapped all the objects located on his table at certain moments and described the memories and feelings associated with them.
Pretty amazing, don’t you think?
