Sculptural Fashion of Stéphanie Baechler

When I look at the work of Swiss artist and designer Stéphanie Baechler, I find it impossible to decide if I should call it fashion or art. Lodonite, her recent wearable art collection inspired by the geometry of gems, definitely doesn’t reside in just one creative camp.

Stephanie’s idea for the line first came to her as she was mixing ceramic glazes.

“Apart from the process of transformation, it is the materials themselves that fascinate me profoundly: the rocks, the gems and ores; their geometry, their varying substance densities. Formal and structural elements from the minerals and their geological origin became the basis for my research.”

The artist used a wide range of fabrics to create these pieces, including loden, a thick woolen fabric that works well for building strong, sculptural shapes.
