New Year’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. Even though it’s really just another day on the calendar of life, it feels like a fresh start. A chance to sit down and reassess where you’ve been and where you’re going.
Usually I get a head start on this process, and this year is no exception. I’ve felt my focus shifting from marketing consulting to content creation for a while now, and have laid the groundwork to do more projects that ring true to my creative goals beginning next month. I’ll be an interior design contributor to a brand new Seattle lifestyle blog that’s launching in the new year, I have a freelance art directing gig lined up, and Sandra and I will be creating our first print edition of We Are The Contributors. I’m super excited about all of these projects and will share more info when they launch.
It’s funny how things work. This really happened. Last week I was talking/passionately ranting with Drew in the kitchen about the business changes that I’m going to make next year. As soon as I was done, I marched down to my office/bedroom and there was a message waiting for me. Did I know any freelance art directors? Yeah, as a matter of fact I do. Me.
Literally, a minute after I announced my change in direction, there was a message that turned into an upcoming project that’s perfectly in line with the kind of work I want to do more of.
Creativity is my passion. I use my own for writing, creating art, taking photographs, and working on graphic and editorial design projects. I love reading about the creative process of others, and collecting inspiration from all kinds of sources. I’ve been working on revamping the content and structure of Inward Facing Girl to be more in line with where I’m going now, and will launch it by the end of the year.
I’m not completely abandoning my marketing background. On the contrary, it’s just going to help me with the projects that I’m taking on. I’m sure I’ll still take on marketing consulting clients when time permits, but it’s just not something that my business is going to be built around moving forward. I’ll continue offering courses or workbooks around the topic, so it’s not completely going away. Branding work is still tied to my creative path, so I’m not planning to discontinue that service. I’ll be doing less coaching and it won’t be a primary focus of what I do.
I’m so excited for the work that lies ahead! Thank you for “listening” to my plans and for hanging out with me in this space. Now it’s your turn. What do you want in 2014? Are you thinking about making changes in your creative life? xoxo
