I know. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet.
This year I thought it would be fun to do a holiday gift series, but I wanted to make it a little bit different. First of all, this series isn’t going to be just about what to buy for the people on your list. Each post will include an actual gift idea, but there’s more to it than that.
You’re going to get a gift too.
Whether it be a link to a recipe, some advice for your creative business, an idea for a creative project, or some cool art that you can print for yourself, I’m going to be giving something to you throughout this season of giving.
I’ll also include links to charitable organizations to help you narrow down your choices when you’re thinking about giving to people, places, or things that you don’t know, but really need your help.

GIFT TO BUY
The Polaroid Instant Digital Camera would be a pretty awesome gift to find in your stocking. I remember crawling out of bed on Christmas morning when I was in 5th grade or so and finding a Polaroid OneStep underneath the tree. It was my first camera, and I loved it. I still have a few of the photos that I took with it!
GIFT FOR YOU
When I lived in Los Angeles I used to go to City Bakery in Brentwood. They’ve since closed that location, but the original New York outpost is still alive and well. City Bakery made the very best cookie I’ve ever had – the molten chocolate cookie. It was so rich and melty. A couple of times when I went into the Brentwood shop they gave me an extra one. Maybe that’s why they closed?
A lot of you guys know that my husband bakes a lot. P.S. That guy above is not my husband. Drew also loved those molten chocolate cookies and we’ve tried to find the recipe for them over the years. While the original City Bakery recipe remains elusive, Seattle-based food writer Molly Wizenberg gets pretty darn close. Here’s the recipe for Chocolate Rads on Orangette. GIFT TO HELP
Art with Heart is a Seattle-based nonprofit organization that uses creativity to help children facing overwhelming difficulties including illness, divorce, violence, or the loss of someone important to them. One of the ways they help kids is through the therapeutic art books that they publish. Read stories about some of the kids that Art With Heart has helped, and donate or shop to support their cause.
