The May 2013 issue of Vogue showcased a collaboration between abstract artist Ellsworth Kelly and Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa. The original color blocked dress was designed by Ellsworth in 1952 and sewn by his friend, artist Anne Weber.
Ellsworth told Vogue that Weber made the bottom panel longer than the rest, which wasn’t what he intended. The collaboration with Francisco Costa, women’s creative director of Calvin Klein, gave Ellsworth a chance to see the dress that he’d pictured in his mind.
Ellsworth Kelly is known for his abstract art, creating bright geometric experiments of form and color. I love the colors and shapes of these pieces.
