I love Danielle Krysa. And not just because attending her amazing Girl Crush event in Seattle was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of my resistance to leave a job to pursue my dream. I love Danielle as a person, as well as her artwork and enviable eye for talent.
Danielle recently opened an Etsy shop called Cross Street Art to sell original commissioned work and some cool prints of her brand new Stacked series. She started making the stacks based on one of the exercises featured in her upcoming book, Creative Block.
“It was something along the lines of go to the thrift store – buy one book – come home and make 5 collages out of it.” …I found an old gardening book and starting cutting. I loved it. I think i might have touch of OCD because i found it very calming to sit and just cut images for hours. Literally, hours. I had no plan really. That night I was falling asleep and I pictured a plant shish-kabob in my head and thought, ‘Ooh! I’ll stack them from large to small’… see, again, a bit OCD.”
“They were just meant as a fun little thing to unblock me, but I enjoyed stacking the plants so much that I moved onto other subjects. Now, I go into the thrift shop once a week and buy one book, come home, and cut it up.”
If you’re more into original pieces, Danielle also offers commissions of your home or car. I love how she incorporates embroidery into her work.
The world is truly a better (and prettier) place because Danielle is in it.
Tonight is the grand opening party of The Fig House in L.A. The art on view was curated by Danielle and the pieces I’ve seen so far are amazing. You can check some of the work out here, here, here, and here.
