Inspiration RX: Tranquility

Last week’s Inspiration Rx prompt was TRANQUILITY.

Sometimes I wake up really early, before anyone else in my happy home has even thought about rising. It’s so quiet that I can hear those tiny buzzing noises that usually go unnoticed. Every whirring kitchen, outdoor, or apartment building sound is pronounced.

Having this morning time to myself is not just about relaxation. If I am able to start my day alone, without interruption, the tone for my entire day is beautifully set. I’m able to ease into the day by writing, reading, or working on an art project. I can drink two cups of coffee before speaking any words. I’m slowly taking in the world at my own pace, which is far less jolting to my introverted brain than starting the day with obligations, conversations, or the high-pitched squeaks of Curious George

I started my “morning time” when I began to work on my blog wholeheartedly. I was working a full-time job, so I would get up around 4:00 AM every morning (yes, even weekends) and do blogging, social media, and client work before my son woke up and went to day care and I headed to my day job. By the time I arrived at work I’d already been working for at least five hours. “Morning time” was crucial to building my business.

I stopped setting my alarm for 4:00 AM after I left my day job. I mean, what kind of crazy would I be if I still got up at 4:00 AM EVERY…SINGLE…DAY? But every now and then, my body wakes me up at 3:00 or 4:00 and I take those moments as opportunities for some grounding tranquility.

Today I woke up at 4:00 AM. I laid in bed for about an hour, reading articles and looking at photos on my iPhone. At 5:00 I got up, started the coffee, and sat down to write this blog post. Everyone else is still fast asleep. Even my cat is napping.

The click click click of my keyboard along with the underlying whirring accompaniment is moving me into this day in a way that primes my creativity.

What do you think of when you hear the word tranquility? Is it a necessity or a luxury in your life?
