I love Audrey Hepburn. One of the most romantic dates that my now-husband then-boyfriend planned for us was seeing a special screening of Sabrina at the Arclight Hollywood. Of course I’d seen the film on TV, but being able to watch it in the theater on the big screen with the man I love was magical.
This past weekend, I was sick with an ear and sinus infection. Super fun, especially in the summer. What would make me feel better? Audrey. The perfect antidote to the summer blahs. Drew and I watched Funny Face. He hadn’t seen it, but I’d watched it at least once before.
There are so many things that I love about this movie, starting with the title sequence that was designed by Richard Avedon. The musical was loosely based on Avedon’s early career, and the magazine in the film (Quality) was posing as Harper’s Bazaar.
The “Think Pink” number at the beginning of the film is tons of fun to watch.
It was fun watching Audrey with Fred Astaire. They had great chemistry and I loved watching them dance. The solo dance that Audrey performs at the nightclub while Astaire watches on is one of my favorites.
And of course, the fashion. Audrey had a long-term style relationship with fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, who provided her Parisian fashions in this film as well as many others.
If you ever need to feel inspired, Funny Face is the film to watch – Audrey, fashion, Paris, design, dancing…what more do you need?
