As some of you guys know, I don’t cook. Drew is the recipe tryer, extraordinary baker, grocery shopper, and food magazine subscriber here. He’s the one with the cookbook collection, and I’m the one who gets to benefit from it. Sometimes in more ways than one.
Like with these three cookbooks. Most likely I wouldn’t buy any of them for myself because I wouldn’t actually use them, but I love them from a design perspective. So I get to eat homemade ice cream and flip through beautiful page layouts, typography, and photography all at the same time.
Momofuku Milk Bar
One of my favorite cookbooks to flip through is Momofuku Milk Bar by 2012 James Beard Rising Star Chef Christina Tosi. Drew and I had a chance to visit Momofuko Milk Bar in person in 2009. We tried the Crack Pie and the Cinnamon Bun Pie. O…M…G. Needless to say, when I saw the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook on a shelf in Williams Sonoma a couple of years later, I immediately picked it up for Drew. Visions of Crack Pie danced in my head.
I love the photography and the clean, modern typeface in this book.
Note to Drew: I’ve been running the numbers, checking out my ROI, and I noticed you haven’t made Crack Pie or Cinnamon Bun Pie yet. Just saying.
Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones: 90 Recipes for Making Your Own Ice Cream and Frozen Treats from Bi-Rite Creamery
When I selected Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones to include in this design roundup, Drew told me that he typically turns to Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz for his ice cream concoctions. I still chose Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones because this is about design, people.
This is a beautiful book by the folks at Bi-Rite Creamery in San Francisco. Want to see it in action?

LEON: Baking & Desserts
LEON Baking & Desserts is so cool. It’s from LEON Restaurants in London. I just realized that all of the cookbooks I’ve selected are from restaurants. Hmm. Just look at this book.
The colors are awesome.
The children are adorable.
What’s not to love? Lucky us, there are at least three other LEON cookbooks out there. I should admit that I haven’t read any of the recipes or experienced any LEON food in person, but the design is awesome.
What are some of your favorite pretty cookbooks? I’d love to see them! Let me know in the comments section or on Facebook. xoxo
