You’re My Obsession: Build an Orphanage, Look at Gorgeous Photographs, Make More Collages

Help Build An Orphanage

Yep. You read that correctly. You can help build an orphanage. My lovely photographer friend Kimberly Taylor has an awesome mom named Barb who is building an orphanage for kids with HIV and AIDS in Jinja, Uganda. She’s actually been baking banana bread and selling it herself to fund this project. Jaaja Barb’s House of Angels will provide medical care, education, a safe home, and much more to these children. No donation is too small. Can you help?

Of Anselm

When you guys get new Twitter or Facebook followers do you check out their blogs? I do. This week I’d like to share one of my new Twitter follower’s blogs, Of Anselm. You guys, I love Naomi’s photography. It’s gorgeous. Plus she just had an adorable little girl…on July 4th. And she’s already making pretty blog posts again! And I swear I saw her at Blog Brunch this weekend. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and seeing more of your beautiful photographs, Naomi!

The Collages of Hollie Chastain

I found out about Hollie Chastain by snooping around on the Jealous Curator’s Elswhere page. Now I’m in super mad love with her collage work.

See? You can tell your mom she’s wrong. Sometimes snooping can pay off, if you’re snooping for good stuff.

Richard Misrach: On the Beach

It’s summertime. I’m gearing up for vacation. It’s time to revisit some photographs I fell in love with even before I got to see them in person at Richard Misrach’s On the Beach exhibit at the Henry Art Gallery in 2008.

Athena Calderone’s Eye Swoon

Interior designer Athena Calderone first showed up in my obsession list when she and her son were photographed for The Glow. Note: If you do click on that old obsession post, please pay no attention to the horrible formatting and photographs. That post was imported from Blogger and I hadn’t attended Alt Summit yet. :) You can feel free to copy my awesome DIY pumpkin idea.

Back to the lovely Athena and her beautiful website, Eye Swoon. Here’s how Athena describes it. “Eye Swoon is a destination for creativity, food, and design…..dedicated to lovers of living with beauty and deliciousness in everyday life.” I’m in. What about you?

Athena’s home was featured in the July/August issue of Elle Decor. She shares some of her excitement about that (and some gorgeous photographs) with us on Eye Swoon.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s obsession list! Don’t forget to sign up for the Inward Facing Girl newsletter. The first one will be going out soon! xoxo
