Notes From Day Care: Urban Hikes and A Worm Named Ned

Hanging Out Under the Aurora Bridge with the Fremont Troll

Monday July 2, 2012

Nathaniel had a great day today! He really liked playing with cards, making art, and reading silly books! The one we read today before lunch is called Clap Your Hands. It gives a lot of different directions like “stomp your feet” or “twirl around.” I loved watching Nathaniel during the directions “make a frown” and “wiggle your nose!” Ask him to do both for you tonight to see what I mean. :)

Nathaniel was pretty sensitive today. He had a hard time during nap time and woke up crying. We held him and gave him lots of cuddles. To cheer him up, we looked through old pictures and he found one of himself with paint on his face. When I asked him who it was he said, “Batguy.” :)

Nathaniel had a pretty good day today. We went on a walk down to the track this morning and Nathaniel loved it! He picked up pinecones, gathered together sticks, and hiked around looking for bugs! He had a great time. :) We also played with farm animals, did pretend play in the kitchen, and sang a lot of songs.

Friday July 6, 2012

Nathaniel had a blast today! We took a walk down to the field where he played with balls, went on “hikes” with his teachers, and even brought back his favorite stick as a souvenir!

Monday July 9, 2012

Nathaniel had a pretty good day today. He was pretty excited about the bumblebee we painted at art time and did a great job using the sponges. Right now he really loves reading the books The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Clap Your Hands, and Please, Puppy, Please

Tuesday July 10, 2012

Nathaniel had a pretty good day today. We had a dress up dance party this morning where he had a blast! :) Everyone had hats and scarves on and were banging pots like drums and shaking shakers. Nathaniel also really liked the art project today! We put our hands on ink pads and made handprints. Nathaniel was very excited about it!

Wednesday July 11, 2012

Nathaniel had a pretty good day today. He was pretty sensitive at times, missing his mommy and daddy. He got very excited when we got out the parachute today! He held on to the handles and helped us make it go up and down. He really likes to hide in the folds and pretend to go to sleep until we tell him to wake up. :)

Thursday July 12, 2012

Nathaniel talked a lot about his mom and dad today. :) If he seems to be missing mom or dad a lot we ask him where they are and he says “working.” Note from Mommy: :( :( :(

Nathaniel was also very interested in playing with animals today. He learned what a moose is!

Note from Mommy: He actually learned what I a moose is when we started reading The Going To Bed Book a few months ago. :)

Friday July 13, 2012

Nathaniel had a fun day. He really enjoyed going to the motor room. He did somersaults down the wedge mat and pretended circular mats were donuts. He was also very excited to hear thunder this morning! At times he was a little nervous but usually he found it exciting.

Nathaniel had a good day today. He was so excited to tell stories from the weekend throughout the day. He is such a great storyteller with such great faces that go with each one! Nathaniel has been getting a lot better at clean up time lately. He is able to stay focused and put away a whole section of toys before going for another.

Note from Mommy: Today there was an arrow on the page instructing me to turn it over “for an adorable story.” :)

When Nathaniel woke up from nap, I got out some green playdough. I made a green worm and called it Ned (based on a worm named Ned in our book during circle time). Nathaniel played with his own playdough for a bit, then looked at his finger where there was a tiny roll of playdough. He looked up at me, pointed to it, and said, “Ned?” He had come across his own Ned! He ran over to show Stephanie and his classmates. He walked around with “Ned” on his finger for a few more minutes before going back to more playdough. :)
