This month on Inward Facing Girl you’re going to get a whole lot of summer! I’m talking books, movies, music, vacations, fashion, childhood memories, personal stories, and guest posts. It’s going to be…wait for it…super fun.
I want to start out with books, because hey…I’m actually reading two right now! In case you’re curious, Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits by Debbie Millman and One Day by David Nicholls. I promised myself that as soon as my former job was all wrapped up, I was going to start reading books again. Especially fiction. I’ve been buried in blogs, design books, and social media for months and I’ve loved every single second of it, but my passion for novels has gotten shoved to the back of the shelf. And what better time to bring it out again than the same month I’ll spending a week at the lake. More on that some other time.
I have a million books I want to read, but I wanted to share a few that I’m thinking about bringing along with me on my trip. I’m sure I won’t get to all of them on my vacation, but thanks to my upcoming guest posters I’m going to have a much better chance.
You Take It From Here by Pamela Ribon
A woman who left behind her small Louisiana town and is being asked by her best friend with terminal cancer to return to said small town, marry her husband, and raise their daughter? I’m in. Here’s a description of the book from Pamie’s site.
Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares
My name is Melanie, I’m 42 years old, and I love the Traveling Pants books. Whatever! (door slam) Fast forward ten years after the “final” book in the series and the sisterhood is all grown up and on the verge of turning 30. Yes, please.
Paris in Love by Eloisa James
I learned about this book from my friend Jill at TerraSavvy. Spoiler alert: Jill will be one of my special guests later this month while I’m enjoying city excursions in Chicago for a few days followed up by a week of lounging at the lake. It’s been a while since I’ve read a Parisian memoir and this one looks fun. Plus, hello, Elizabeth Gilbert loved it, and I love Elizabeth Gilbert.
Catching Up with My Would-Be-BFF Jennifer Weiner
Like I said, I’ve been away from fiction for a while. But guess what? That just means that sometimes I get to read more than one book by an author I like. Jennifer Weiner’s brand new book The Next Best Thing was released this week, plus I still haven’t had a chance to read Then Came You. Double bonus for me.
I think that this is way more than enough to get me started. I’ll be sure to let you guys know if I find something new. I hope to be sharing more books now since I have time to read them again.
Happy summer reading! xoxo
