My Mom on Motherhood

In honor of Mother’s Day, I asked my mom if I could interview her. The groovy 60s photographs were my idea. :) Thanks, Mom! For everything. I love you. xoxo

What surprised you about motherhood?

How much time it involved, especially when your children are babies or toddlers. You are always busy and too tired to find time for yourself. At the end of the day, when you finally get a moment to yourself, the thought comes….in a few short hours we begin again.

What is one of your favorite memories about your mother?

I think I was a junior in high school. I played on the basketball team. After one of our games, which happened to be on my birthday, I went into the locker room and everyone yelled “surprise!” I had never had a birthday party and my Mom had planned the party, made the cake and kept it all a secret. Totally surprised!

What is one of your favorite things about being a mother?

Slobbery kisses, little hand prints everywhere, making funny faces, hearing the giggles. I probably enjoy it more today with the  grandchildren.

Did you always want to be a mother?

Always. My sister was 5 years older than me, so she had her first child when I was in high school. I loved playing with my nephew.

Looking back over your experience, what is the best advice you could give to mothers with young children?

Remember your children are not miniature adults. Let them be “kids.” They will not always act perfectly, be happy or cooperative. Hold them, play with them, love them. All too soon they are grown and gone, and the things you thought you had to do will still be there tomorrow.

Can I have a pony?
