I’ve learned about some awesome mixed media collage artists from Trendland. Last week Cyril Foiret introduced me to the work of Polish graphic designer Franz Falckenhaus.

Once Upon A Time in Tehran
If you know me and/or this blog, you’re aware that I don’t spend time reading the Foreign Policy website. My husband doesn’t either, but somehow he came across these amazing photos from the 60s and 70s in Tehran (courtesy of Kaveh Farrokh) and shared them with me.
Seeing these images reminded me of the time when Drew and I were living in L.A. and we went to see Persepolis at the Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena. The great thing about this theater is that it is right next door to one of the best bookstores in the L.A. area, Vroman’s. I loved the movie so much that I bought the graphic novel memoir

TREEHOUSE Kid & Craft
TREEHOUSE Kid & Craft has a nice selection of cool modern toys, books, and crafty things for kids and kids at heart. The company is based in Athens, GA. If you live in the area you can advantage of their DIY classes. Fun! Their website is well-designed and their product photos are nice too. I especially like the ones in the “make” section.
Since Nathaniel loves playing with people, I’m planning to order some of the “make your own wooden people” to decorate and play with. I’ll be dressing the “Mommy” in stripes.
The Sock Monster
On Saturday we decided to head over to Wallingford, one of our cute neighboring neighborhoods. We had breakfast at The Rusty Pelican (chocolate chip pancakes…yum), then stopped in The Sock Monster to look at their collection. Wow. I was overwhelmed by all the cool socks! Nathaniel and I walked away with these.

LookatLao Studio
Last weekend I was cruising around the web looking at different restaurant websites in Seattle. Note to restaurant websites in Seattle – I hate PDF menus. I get that it’s easier to deal with when the menu changes so often, but it’s SO annoying.
Anyway, I was looking at this amazing website for Ba Bar, and fell in love with the design and photography so I had to see who was responsible for it.

We haven’t tried Ba Bar yet, but it’s definitely on my list. And not just because their web menu was beautifully designed rather than PDFed. Maybe we’ll go on one of our April date days/nights.
