When I hear the words “classic style” specific images pop into my brain: trenchcoats, white button-down shirts, oversized sunglasses, stripes, black and white, Paris, Audrey Hepburn.
I think of Jackie Kennedy, who always seemed put together even on her most casual days. I remember an image that I saved from a 2005 issue of InStyle of Gwyneth Paltrow looking California cool, but classic, in her navy striped shirt. And then there’s my favorite modern classic style icon, Sofia Coppola.
I’ll be honest. These days I’d rather wear yoga pants, no bra, and curl up on the couch admiring the fashion of Gossip Girl. But on the occasions where clothing and leaving my apartment is imminent, I do tend to turn to more classic “uniforms”: black sweaters, dark-washed jeans, black converse, striped shirts, scarves, oversized sunglasses (when needed).
