Organize This: Email Subscriptions

Last week, I told you guys about organizing my refrigerator and wrote a post about organizing social media and blogs. Of course, a day or so after I wrote it I thought about another important online thing that we need to purge every now and then: email subscriptions. I mean, seriously. Do you REALLY need to subscribe to every single newsletter that the New York Times publishes?

I went through a phase last year where I subscribed to one million Apple newsletters, and I’m still clearing those out. Last week I started putting those unsubscribe links at the bottom of each email to good use. Taking two seconds to click unsubscribe on the email that you don’t read instead of just hitting delete has to add up to a lot of saved time over a year. Right? At least it makes your inbox less cluttered.

Cool Design Shops Online

You know what’s awesome and completely dangerous at the same time? All of the cool online shops that sell amazingly designed items. You really have no excuse for sending ugly gifts anymore.

My go-to shop for ideas is Fab.com. The problem is I have yet to buy any gifts from them, just stuff for me.

There’s always Velocity Art and Design, a local brick-and-mortar favorite with an online component. Just recently, I ordered a Sagaform jar from a cool shop I discovered called Pigment, located in San Diego. I love that they included a mini-print by owner and artist Amy Paul in the package. Nice touch!

Some other new finds include AllModern, and Mjölk (which I learned about when drooling over Anna’s new blanket).

Robot Blue from Planet 22

Janine Vangool from UPPERCASE introduced me to a cool book/iPad app that is so much fun to read with Nathaniel. I’m not sure which one of us loves it more.

While reading the book (or having it read to you by a woman with a very soothing English accent), you can fill a jar with stars, change the robot’s hat, and construct and launch a rocket, just to name a few of the fun interactive things you can do.

Robot Blue from Planet 22 was written and illustrated by Jayson Fuerstenberg, and is available in book and iPad format.

27b/6

It had been a while since I’d clicked on over to David Thorne’s website 27b/6. Lucky for us, my husband started reading Ten F26-A Formal Complaint Notices in Six Months to me and our howling laughter led me back to revisit the site. If it’s your first time, Missing Missy is a good place to start, then try The Ducks in the Bathroom Are Not Mine.

Alt Summit Must-Haves

I’ve been getting all my stuff together for next week’s (!) Altitude Design Summit. You can see my roundup of favorites and Kait’s interview with me on Yuppie Love.
