Remember yesterday when I told you that Drew and I actually had a date night on Saturday? I forgot to tell you that I…put…on…makeup. Can you believe it?
Before I had Nathaniel, I wore makeup. Not nearly as often as I did before Drew and I moved to Seattle, but every now and then I’d feel like taking out my fancy pots and brushes and painting my face pretty colors.
The first few months after Nathaniel was born, you would have been lucky to have caught me on a day that I showered, or at least didn’t have my hair pulled up on top of my head in a tired mommy bun. Now that he’s 16 months old and I’m venturing out in public at night every once in awhile, why not try wearing makeup occasionally?
Since Drew and I were going to dinner at Delancey to celebrate my birthday, I thought that would be a good time to experiment (a.k.a., actually take the makeup out of the bag and apply it to my face).
On the left is my “before” shot. No makeup, very little hair product.
Now I’m going to confess something. Something very bad in the land of makeup rules. Something awful. I used products that were over a year old. I know, I know, bacteria! Infections! Gross. Sigh.
The last time I bought makeup was about two months after Nathaniel was born. I wasn’t feeling good about myself and I thought putting on a little makeup would help me feel better. And it did…on those two days that I actually used it.
Anyway, I had some barely-used-but-old products in my bag.
I’ll admit I felt a little awkward putting it on since I’m out of practice. Note to self: Next time you want to go for smokey eyes, refer to this video first.
And…voilà!
What do you guys think? I did feel kind of fabulous after I did my hair and makeup. If I had a red carpet in my hallway I might have pranced up and down it a few times.
Overall, the makeup experiment was a success. I had a great time at Delancey, and it was fun to get dressed up.
Who knows? Maybe I’ll move to occasional morning makeup next. My co-workers might pass out. I’ll definitely need to dump my makeup bag and start a new product collection first.
What are your favorite easy, natural-looking, products? What color eyeshadow should I wear? I need help.
