You’re My Obsession: November 14-20, 2011

November 2011 Obsession

Alt Summit Classes

It’s getting closer and closer. Am I talking about Christmas, before we’ve even had Thanksgiving? Definitely not. Do you think I’d listen to Christmas music already? No way, not me. I’m talking about Alt, or Alt Summit, or Altitude Design Summit – your choice. It goes by many names.

January 18th is practically just around the corner, and I’m so excited for this conference! I’ve been attending the online classes that have been provided to prepare us for what to expect, and they’ve been so inspiring. Seriously, I can’t even imagine how awesome the actual conference is going to be. Every time I finish one of these sessions, I walk away excited, with new ideas, and much more informed than I was before.

I also feel like I have a lot to do before January! I need to really take some time and think about what my goals are for Alt, and think more broadly about what I want this blog to be. How do I want to use it? Do I want to have sponsors? Yes, because I want to make my living as a blogger/writer/photographer/artist. How can I work with sponsors authentically? I know that I’m not interested in advertising anything that I don’t believe in or really like. Where does blogging fit in when I picture my ideal career? The big stuff, guys. The big stuff.

I’m going to be exploring some of these things in the next couple of months leading up to the conference. Don’t worry. It’s not going to be all “what’s in my head” all the time, or anything like that. Just the big thoughts. And shopping. I have a LOT of shopping to do before that conference.

No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog by Maggie Mason

This week I started reading a book by one of my favorite bloggers. No One Cares What You Had for Lunch is a collection of writing prompts for bloggers, offering creative jumping off points that encourage you to craft interesting posts.

So far I’ve seen several things I’ve done and some that I want to do soon. Even though I already have too many ideas and not enough time to do them, I’m really enjoying this book. Plus, the cover is a photograph of French fries.

Chelsea’s Pretty Refrigerator

Chelsea Fuss, of the awesome lifestyle blog Frolic! and taker of the lovely photographs above, has done the unthinkable. She has made me want to “style” my refrigerator…or at least clean it out. One of her tips – store leftovers in pretty Le Parfait French Glass Canning Jars.

Does this mean I’ve spent the weekend making my fridge sparkle and shine so I can show you a pretty photograph? Ha! Not so fast, Missy. Or Mister. But hey, at least I’m thinking about something that has to do with cleaning. It’s a Christmas Thanksgiving miracle! Just ask my husband.

Tape as Art

Washi tape. Hot pink duct tape. A mother-son art project created from colorful tape. Make your own antlers out of tape. You see where I’m going with this?

Tape is the new…something, and I want in. I’m going to make some kind of tape art using a combination of the colors below. Probably not all together, but I know better than to make any promises.

New Girl Intro

Zooey Deschanel is just so fabulous. And multi-talented. And fabulous. And stylish. And fabulous.

Seriously, if you’re not watching New Girl you are missing out on lots of laughs. Zooey is hilarious. I adore this show. The intro alone makes it worthwhile. Just watch and listen. Fabulous.
