Art I Heart: Pink Cow Wallpaper by Andy Warhol

In my new weekly column Art I ♥ I’ll share artsy things I’m inspired by, want, or love, including Etsy finds, photography, interior design, art/design/photography books, gallery or museum exhibits, and more.

First on my list, inspired by reading Andy Warhol’s Colors to my son many times, is Pink Cow Wallpaper by Andy Warhol.

An aside…I have a serious mad crush on Chronicle Books. I swear every time I pick up a book and love it, I flip it over and see the Chronicle Books logo. What’s up with that?

When I was 19 or 20, I developed an Andy Warhol obsession. I read tons of books about him. I wished I’d been alive and in New York during the 60s Factory years. I wanted to be Edie Sedgwick (minus the drug problem and early death).

I always liked Andy’s ideas more than his actual artwork. Soup cans and Brillo pad boxes as art? Brilliant idea. Do I want a household goods sculpture in my living room? Not so much. But his pink cow wallpaper…I would love to have that on one of my walls.

Swingers Diner in L.A. uses pink cows if you’d like to go by and see what it looks like. Or if you want to send me some, I’ll put it up in my bathroom and take photos of it.

Oh, Andy…I wish you were still around. I’d love to hear your take on internet culture and reality TV obsession. It seems like you were right…everyone will be famous for 15 minutes. I’ll bet you’d love it.
