I Love Pink

1. Pink
I’m not sure when it happened, but one day I woke up and I loved the color pink again.

When I was a timid and anxious little first grader (trust me…I was afraid of my own shadow…and dogs…and bugs…and substitute teachers…and getting lost on the playground…and an anthropomorphic wolf that I was certain lived in my closet), my bedroom walls were painted pink and my floor was covered with a pink rug. My first Barbie had a pale pink dress with white polka dots. My Cher doll had a fantastic salmon pink evening gown.

Yes, I had a Cher doll. And all of the Charlie’s Angels. Duh.

Fast forward to me, age 19…dressed in black from head to toe, stomping around in Doc Martens, listening to The Cure and The Smiths, watching 120 Minutes, and lamenting the fact that I’m never going to be a rock star. Mind you, I had no interest in playing an instrument after the clarinet in 7th and 8th grade. Turns out I was much more suited to “groupie.” Anyhoo…at that point, I wouldn’t touch pink if Robert Smith himself tried to cloak me in a soft pink fluffy blanket.

Like that would ever happen.

Now, I love pink. Usually not in clothes, but I love it in art, design, retro owls, iPad cases, and more. I’m drawn to it more and more each day.

2. COLOURlovers
Do you like color (or “colour”)? What about putting different colors together to see how they look? Do you want to make fun color palettes, save them, and share them with others? Of course you do! That’s why you need to sign up for an account at COLOURlovers.

Here’s my first color palette – shades of pink that I’m loving right now. I’m so excited to make more!

Now it’s your turn. Visit COLOURlovers. Create a palette. Send me a link to your palette by Saturday, July 30th, and I’ll include it in a color extravaganza (!) blog post. Include your name (and website, if you have one) so I can properly credit your creation. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

3. Sofas
Thanks to an earlier episode of Secrets from a Stylist, I can’t stop thinking about getting a new sofa…and we just got one earlier this year.

Unfortunately, after trolling around Seattle furniture stores for a couple of months, we couldn’t find one that we liked and was affordable. So we decided to look online and ended up ordering one based on the measurements, description, and photos. Big mistake. Note to self: Never buy something that you’re going to sit on every day without trying it out in the store first.

Actually, even though I never would do that again, I probably wouldn’t have known that our sofa would be annoying just by sitting on it in a store. It was so much more comfortable than our previous sofa that it seemed like a dream come true at first. Now it feels lumpy, it slides around (there’s a separate chaise that isn’t connected to part of it), and I can’t get comfortable when it’s time for me to take my nightly TV nap. And frankly, the neutral color bores me.

If I didn’t have to consider the decorating style of others, I would love to have one of these cool sofas.

If I had a different life (e.g., lived alone in a studio apartment in Paris), I’d consider these.

Next steps: Let me know when you want my delivery address.

4. Blended Mocha from Firehouse Coffee in Ballard
Although it won’t give you the full effect, I think the image below will give you an idea of how awesome this beverage is. I was lucky enough to have one at Firehouse Coffee on Saturday. Delicious!

Mmm...summer coffee

5. Vintage Me Oh My
Vintage Me Oh My is a fantastic blog that showcases the best vintage and modern vintage graphic design. I could look literally through this blog for hours. If the rest of my life sucked, I probably would.

I hope that you guys have a great week! Don’t forget to send me links to your COLOURlovers palettes, or just include them in the comments section of this post. xoxo
