Last week when I visited L.A. for the first time since living there in 2008, I realized something. I don’t like the west side anymore. I was really looking forward to going back to Abbot Kinney (in Venice) and Main Street (in Santa Monica), but aside from two super cool and related shops that I’ll tell you about in another post, I was underwhelmed.
After walking around Abbot Kinney, I felt like I needed to go back to the east side as soon as possible. I skipped Main Street altogether and headed back to my favorite places in L.A., Los Feliz, Silverlake, and Echo Park.
I found an awesome shop (with an awesome name) in Silverlake – ReForm School. Drew said that we went there once when we lived in L.A., but I don’t remember it at all. Probably because I was in a dazed stupor of love. :) And I still am, honey…I can just see other cool things now too. xo. This shop was full of wonderful art, books, other decorating thingies, and just cool stuff in general. I love it.
Another great place in Silverlake is Matrushka Construction. All of the clothes are handmade from locally sourced leftover fabrics selected by owner and designer Laura Howe, so the prints are constantly changing. Bonus – you get to carry your purchases home in style in one of their cute sewn fabric bags.
So…Silverlake. Go there.
1. Couple with Dog by Shelly Klein
2. Cool typewriter at ReForm School that I did not buy (and may not even be for sale)
3. Super soft hummingbird shirt from Matrushka Construction
4. Noonie’s Masterpiece is next on my “to read” list (an aside: how can Chronicle Books be SO IMPECCABLY COOL?)
5. Cool street art outside ReForm School by becca
