I love lists. I like making them. I like crossing things off of them. I like to keep running lists of movies I want to see, books I want to read, websites I want to visit, music I want to listen to…you get the idea.
Blogs and newsletters that share weekly lists of different things are also cool. Like Cool Hunting’s Link About It: This Week’s Picks, eatpinklove’s Ten Things I Love This Week, Anthology’s {Wandering Thoughts}, and the Seattle Picks Friday newsletter, just to name a few.
So…introducing MY weekly column: You’re My Obsession. Five things that I’m obsessed with each week. “Can she really be obsessed with five different things every week?” you ask. You bet I can. I’m actually limiting myself to five, which will prove to be difficult some weeks, I’m sure. Some of the things on my weekly list may be mentioned in my blog already and some of the things (cough, cough, Apple products, cough, cough) may be repetitive. But they will all be things that I’ve been drooling over, obsessively desiring, or gushing about all week long.
Without further ado, here’s this week’s five obsessions, in no particular order.
1. The Apple iPad 2

By the Tuesday morning following the Friday March 11th launch, I was fully on board. Rationalization: I mostly want to read library books. The Overdrive Media app is free. Library books are free. Apple can’t take 30% of free, so I will still be able to read eBooks from my library come June 30th. I was just about to get on the bus to go to work, but instead I drove myself to the Apple store to see if I had iPad 2 luck that day. Nope. No luck. Later I found out that Best Buy was (the ONLY place) taking reservations, so my friend and I cruised over to the closest store, gave the home of the Geek Squad my down payment, and secured my place on the list.
Still waiting, still obsessing.
2. DesignTAXI
I first learned about this super cool site (and the network they belong to) when they followed me on Twitter. I’m so glad that they did. I guess the best way to describe what this site has to offer is by quoting their own “about us” page.
“We talk about Design, Art, Photography, Advertising, Architecture, Style, Culture, Technology, and Social Media. The typical TAXI reader is creative, curious and excited about new ideas. He or she is on top of the latest innovations in design and technology, and stays up-to-date on key trends in those fields.”
I subscribe to their newsletter and I always find a story that I’m interested in reading.
Other than browsing some of the cool artwork for sale on The Bazaar, I haven’t spent much time on other parts of the network yet. But I’m planning to very soon.
3. Original Songs on This Week’s Glee
Wow! This week’s episode of Glee was extra awesome! I loved the original songs. I cracked up when Santana sang Trouty Mouth, wanted to dance around my living room when Mercedes sang Hell to the No, and adored the performance of Loser Like Me (see video above). Fantastic episode and great music to stream when you’re working out on the elliptical.
4. Nick Cave’s Meet Me at the Center of the Earth Exhibition at SAM
I wrote a blog post about this already, so I won’t yammer on about it too long. If you’re in Seattle, go see this exhibit. Follow @iheartSAM on Twitter for Soundsuit invasion clues.
5. Springpad
My awesome husband told me about this cool note taking organization plus app that I can access from any computer, my iPhone, and my (future) iPad. You can incorporate notes, checklist, links, photos, social media and more, and organize and customize all of your information in many ways. LOVE.
And that’s it! Column #1. Come back next Sunday for more obsessions.
