Drew and I had a fantastic time in Kauai celebrating our first anniversary and enjoying our babymoon. Here are some of the highlights, in no particular order.
- Waking up with the roosters and seeing the chickens with their chicks.
- The warmth and the breeze. I loved spending all my time in flip-flops and not being required to wear a jacket.
- Our first breakfast of the trip at Kountry Kitchen in Kapaa. The coffee was great and we liked the French toast sprinkled with coconut and drizzled with coconut syrup.
- A couples massage during a relaxing afternoon spent at the Anara Spa at the Grand Hyatt Kauai.
- Good coffee and a great breakfast at Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Company. The Very Veggie Omelet is really yummy and you MUST try their “famous” cinnamon Knuckle. Delicious.
- Relaxing on the beach and splashing in the waves in Poipu.
- Walking around Hanapepe during their Friday night art walk. Talk Story Bookstore has a decent selection of used books (and featured Westside Smitty crooning Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire when we were there). Banana Patch Studio is a good place to pick up some local artwork.
- Trying a Hawaiian style veggie dog at Puka Dog in Poipu.
- Taking drives and pulling over to appreciate and photograph the gorgeous views, including the taro farms in Hanalei, the Waikanaloa Wet Cave in Ha’ena, the Hanapepe Valley Lookout, beaches in Hanalei, one of the many lookout points in Waimea Canyon (even though it got to be too prairie for me after a while), Wailua Falls, and the Ha’upu Range on Maluhia Road.
- Trying shave ice in Hanalei.
- Watching the birds soar at the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.
- Lunch at Mediterranean Gourmet in Hanalei. Delicious food and a great view of the ocean.
- Watching the hula dancers in Poipu.
- Having a yummy chopped salad and panini for lunch at Living Foods Market & Cafe in Poipu.
Kauai is beautiful and relaxing, and we’re so glad that we visited. You can see all of our photos here. If you have the chance, GO! :)
