This morning I was reading about Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are on Obsessions of a Pop Culture Nerd. I watched the trailer and was happy to see that Jonze was working with Catherine Keener again. I heart her.
For some reason I thought that Charlie Kaufman had written the script. I super heart him. And can you imagine? A familyish movie written by Charlie Kaufman? However, I wasn’t disappointed when I discovered that Dave Eggers was Jonze’s co-writer. I loved A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and I’m eager to see what an Egger’s screenplay is like.
Eggers has also co-written another movie with Vendela Vida who wrote an interesting book that I read a few years ago, Girls on the Verge: Debutante Dips, Drive-bys, and Other Initiations. Their film is called Away We Go, and in addition to having great writers, this movie is directed by Sam Mendes and stars John Krasinski and Maggie Gyllenhaal. I had a chance to watch the trailer last week and it looks fantastic.
I go to the movies a lot. I hear you kind of have to give that up if you have a baby. Since I don’t have a baby this weekend, I’m probably going to see Sunshine Cleaning.
