Art Museums

This morning I was thinking about this book that I’ve been meaning to buy that I first saw last year at Wacko in Hollywood, Animus by Seonna Hong.  Remembering this book led me to check out Seonna Hong’s website, which incited an overwhelming desire to visit an art museum or gallery as soon as possible.

I love going to art museums. They’re calming and inspiring at the same time. I should point out that I’m a contemporary art and photography fan, so the ancient masterpieces found in Florence aren’t really going to do it for me. When I went to Paris I skipped The Lourve and spent hours in the Centre Pompidou instead. I’ve already been researching places to hit up for modern/contemporary art in Rome.

I’ve had the opportunity to see some great exhibits – an Andy Warhol exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, a Diane Arbus photography exhibit at LACMA, Murakami at the MOCA in L.A., the gardens at The Getty Center in L.A. Which I realize is not technically an exhibit, but I’ve always preferred the gardens and architecture of The Getty to any work that I’ve seen there.

I think my favorite exhibit so far is Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art and Street Culture. I saw it in 2005 at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach. You can make fun of the O.C. all you want, but this museum has some cool contemporary shows. For the time being, you can see some of the work from this multi-media exhibit (influenced by graffiti, skateboarding, punk, and hip hop) here.

Now, go forward into the world and create.
